Robert Kyr, composer

Robert Kyr (b. 1952) has composed twelve symphonies, three chamber symphonies, three violin concerti, chamber music, and numerous works for vocal ensembles of all types. His choral commissions include music for Conspirare Company of Voices (Austin), Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Chanticleer (San Francisco), Cappella Romana (Portland), Sanford Dole Ensemble (San Francisco), Cantus (Minneapolis), San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Yale Camerata, Harvard Glee Club, Radcliffe Choral Society, Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum, Tapestry (Boston), Cappella Nova (Scotland), Revalia (Estonia), Putni (Latvia), Moscow State Chamber Choir (Russia), Ensemble PAN, and Back Bay Chorale (Boston). Kyr holds degrees from Harvard (Ph. D., ’89), University of Pennsylvania (M. A., ’78), and Yale (B. A., ’74). Currently, he is Philip H. Knight Professor of Music at the University of Oregon’s School of Music, where he is chair of the composition department and President-elect of the University of Oregon Senate.
