Scott Ordway, composer

Scott Ordway, composer
Scott J. Ordway
(b. 1984) is an American composer and conductor of contemporary classical music. He is presently a Benjamin Franklin Doctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania as well as Composer-in-Residence at St Mary's Cathedral, Philadelphia and Principal Conductor of Syzygy New Music in New York City. Ordway's work reflects a deep concern with emotional immediacy, clarity of formal expression, and the architecture of large scale. In recent years his work has grown less influenced by contemporary academic compositional models in favor of a musical language synthesizing the structural qualities of high European classicism with the visceral impact of early twentieth-century expressionism and the highly rhythmic, pattern-based textures of American minimal music.
